Holbeck Ghyll’s Guide to building your personal wedding style

Begin by writing down your top three wedding ‘style’ priorities. Making a list of the core elements that are important to you and your partner will aid you in direction for the styling of the day and will also get you thinking about your final vision. An example of this could be a love for the arts and the incorporation of this within the theme, aspects of your family’s history or a love for classical music.

Use your venue to guide your decisions
Personality plays a big part on the styling of your day but the Venue should play an important part too. Here at Holbeck Ghyll we have many elements from which you can pull inspiration from. Whether this is the astonishing lake view, the luxurious greens and woods of the oak room, or the warmth and homeliness of the Inglenook; be sure to incorporate these elements into your theme and create a complimentary color pallet that sums you up perfectly.

My color recommendations for the Oak room would be; White, Gold, Cream, Forest Green, Olive Green and Copper. These compliment the room perfectly and heighten the warmth the room oozes. Typically I advise setting a range of around six colors and tones which all tie in together. This allows much more flexibility in elements such as stationary and Chair Covers and avoids creating a very one dimensional look.

Don’t get over excited by wedding sites online
Websites such as Pinterest offer a wealth of ideas and fabulous photos. Pinterest is undoubtedly the best places to build you’re perfect wedding, but it is so easy to pin images that are completely irrelevant to the style you have chosen. Initially it’s worth scouring the web for ideas however changing your mind at the last minute can cause you stress you do not need. Keep focused and remember your final vision!

Create a scrapbook
Creating a scrap book is a fantastic way to keep on top of your ideas and to more clearly envisage how the hotel will look. It is a great way to help you to remember your initial influences and aid in ensuring all elements of the wedding (Bridesmaid’s dresses etc), match your dream vision.

What is the recommendation for gaining inspiration for the initial style?
As soon as the question is popped, everything you notice around you will be connected to weddings! If you have been to a lot of previous weddings you will remember elements of the styling you liked and disliked. If anything really jumps out at you ensure to write it down, you don’t want to forget about something you loved, or equally end up going for something you loathed in reality.

On my initial meeting with couples, I firstly ask them how they envision their day. It differs with every couple; it can vary from personal tastes, to finding the dream venue. From experience I find these are the best two things to initially influence your wedding style as ultimately your style should match them.

Our expert team has an abundance of styling experience and will help you every step of the way. We can talk you through what we think compliments are venue and show you pictures of the rooms styled for weddings. There is no harm in borrowing an idea from a previous wedding. Regardless of the style you go for inside the venue one thing is for sure, the phenomenal view from our Hotel will blow your guests away!
