2 Hour Lakeland Stroll
Perfect for a morning or mid-afternoon stroll. This circular route is a great choice if you would like a few hours away from the hotel without committing to a long hike or very steep climbs. In regards to clothing, we recommend shoes with robust tread and suitable clothing for weather conditions.
1.Walk to the bottom of the hotel driveway and turn left (walking up-hill along Holbeck Lane). Follow the road for approximately half a mile.
2. On your left you will see a public footpath signposted Private Road – “Skelgill Farms and Flats only”, take this path. After approximately 10 minutes of walking along this path you will see Holbeck Ghyll on your left – continue on the footpath to a gate by a cattle shed leading away from the hotel.
Continue on through each gate until you come to a cattle grid. Just before the cattle grid, turn right and go through a swing gate, followed by a second swing gate.
Follow the path up the hill, passing on your right a derelict stone building.
Go straight ahead along the track between two stone walls.
3. Keep on the track until a bench seat can be seen with a path leading down to the right. Take this path and continue following until you reach the lane
4.When you reach Holbeck Lane, turn right and follow the lane for approximately 50 yards then continue along the bridle path which will be on your left.
5. The bridle path finishes at the main road (A591), at this point turn right (towards Brockhole Visitor center) and continue following the footpath until you reach Holbeck Lane
6. Turn right when you see Holbeck Lane and follow the country lane as it climbs up for about half a mile. The hotel driveway will be on your left.
