The iconic panorama of Cumbria’s most famous fells and beloved Windermere stretch as far as the eye can see from the front of the hotel.

Holbeck Ghyll is set perfectly between Bowness-On-Windermere and Ambleside, with the wonderful town of Windermere just a five-minute drive away meaning your favourite Lakeland experiences are close to hand.

Grasmere’s Wordsworth Museum and the famous gingerbread shop are nearby, as well as Beatrix Potter’s many legacies. Craft breweries, artisan food producers, award-winning farm shops and classic tea rooms surround Holbeck Ghyll. If you need to venture out, and the weather’s looking a touch challenging, all the famous produce of the lakes can be found in the warmth and comfort of the hotels luxurious lounges so you can make the most of your stay. Assuming you don’t arrive by helicopter, you can find us via the A591. Winding along the shores of the Windermere and being one of the main routes through the Lakes, this is a top priority road for gritting and our grounds staff pay extra attention to Holbeck Lane and the hotel driveway each winter, to ensure easy access – however seasonal the weather.


From the North
M6 Junction 40, A66 to Keswick. Take A591 south, via Grasmere and Ambleside. One mile past Ambleside turn left into Holbeck Lane. Holbeck Ghyll is half a mile on the left.

From the South
M6 Junction 36, A591 to Windermere. Continue past Windermere, 3 miles towards Ambleside, pass Brockhole Visitors Centre then turn right towards Troutbeck (Holbeck Lane). We are half a mile on the left.
