What makes Holbeck Ghyll so special?

Holbeck Ghyll is more than just a hotel, we want to be your home from home in the English Lake District. Our attention to detail, award winning service coupled with fantastic service and our breathtaking location make us the perfect venue to host you special day. Each wedding is important to our team and we take great pride in delivering perfection during the lead up to and on the big day itself.

The attention to detail and commitment to excellence is what makes Holbeck Ghyll different. Furthering this, our small and friendly team will get to know a bit more about both you and your special day; so you and your wedding party truly feel at home.

What is your maximum capacity?

Should you decide to book the entire hotel (exclusive use) we can accommodate a maximum of 64 guests for a wedding ceremony and/or breakfast (including bride and groom). We can accommodate up-to 80 guests for an evening reception.

Please note that, for our non-exclusive use packages, details regarding maximum number of guests will be outlined in the description of the package and will be explained to you when making a booking.

Are you licensed to host ceremonies?

Our Oak room, Lounge and Private function room are all licensed for ceremonies and all have the most stunning view of the lake (the location of your ceremony will depend on the size of your wedding and packaged booked).

Blessings and Vow Renewals can commence outdoors.

How do we book our Wedding

After your initial show-round, we can provisionally hold a date for you for 5 working days.
Once you have provisionally booked a date we will send out a copy of our Terms and conditions. A signed copy must be returned to us before any deposit payment can be taken or any booking confirmed. On receipt of your signed Terms and Conditions the deposit payment is then taken.

During this time we recommend contacting the local registrar and ensuring they are available to conduct a Civil Wedding Ceremony on the date you have chosen and during the times we have specified. Contact details for the local registrar will be provided when you come for a show-round. It is a legal requirement that you contact the registrars separately; this is not the hotels responsibility to do so.

We have just booked, what happens next?

Immediately after confirming the booking you will receive your official booking confirmation along with an initial itinerary which outlines everything included in your package. Personally I find this information answers some simple queries for you and kick starts the exciting planning process.

Each Wedding is recognized as being a remarkably special occasion and I will always be on hand to assist you with any queries. Appointments can be made with me at any stage during the planning process. Our idea is for you to feel as at home, in our luxurious surroundings, as possible and we strive to offer a warm welcome to our couples at all times.

Finally you will receive reminders shortly before any critical stages of planning, detailing our requirements at that point, this will help you plan any necessary visits to the hotel.

Who will be our contact?

As Sales and Events coordinator, I work full time at the Hotel and will work with you right up to your big day.  At our final planning meeting, you will also meet one of our Restaurant Managers, Jack or Chris, who will be here on your wedding day to ensure that everything runs to plan. All departments work very closely together to offer first class service.

Can we buy drinks for our guests?

Here at Holbeck Ghyll we have an extensive Wine list; complete with some of the world’s most sought after wines. If you wish to pre order any wines from this list we ask that this is done before your final appointment one month prior.

When are we required to inform you of final numbers for our wedding?

In order for us to provide the award winning service we are known for we need to have all final numbers and details at your final appointment, which is always done no later than one month prior to the day. This will determine if you have incurred any extra costs to your account, take final payment and to enable us to make all the final preparations for your special day.

Is there a deadline to have everything organised?

It is advised that is final appointment is done no later than one month prior to the day. This appointment will primarily focus around the finalisation of your wedding itinerary. We will be asking for information from song choices for your ceremony to presentation of wedding favors, details of arrangements with suppliers and to answer any important questions you may have. A full venue check list will be provided prior to your appointment.

Can we have a band or a DJ?

We allow entertainment with our exclusive use packages only, where you can provide your own form of entertainment to add that extra element to your evening. I recommend placing any live evening entertainment in the Inglenook, having a dance floor here provides a great atmosphere and is a central place for all your guests to dance the night away!

Do you have a list of trusted local suppliers?

When you come for a show-round I will give you a comprehensive contact list with details of local suppliers. These suppliers have either been to the Venue previously or have been at Events attended by our expert team. Please be aware we do not book suppliers on your behalf this is solely your responsibility.

When can our suppliers have access to the Venue on the day?

Suppliers can have access to the hotel from 12pm on the day of the wedding. I advise that they make contact with me prior to confirm their exact requirements, this includes any suppliers for the bridal party in the morning, or evening suppliers with the exclusive use package.

Can we come and view the Hotel?

At Holbeck Ghyll we pride ourselves on offering first-class service in luxurious and homely surroundings. Perched high on a hill in a secluded and peaceful spot, Holbeck Ghyll boasts spectacular views overlooking Lake Windermere and the Langdale Fells. Recognized as being one of the most romantic hotels in Britain, Holbeck Ghyll is the perfect setting for your special day, with award-winning dining for an exceptional Wedding Breakfast.
