Food Awards for the Holbeck Ghyll

Creativity and innovation are terms practically synonymous with a Michelin star food title and the Holbeck team members certainly do not fail to deliver in this regard. What singles out the Michelin star experience at the Holbeck Ghyll, however, is the way in which the dining experience is woven so intimately with the narratives of the surrounding area. As Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon discovered during the filming of an episode of their hit series ‘The Trip’, the flavours and nuances of the Holbeck team’s culinary creations cannot be separated from the spirit of the fells, immersed as dining at the Holbeck is in breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

The dishes themselves continue the narrative.  Head Chef David Mclaughlin has a particular flair for uniting tradition with innovation by interpreting classic Lake District recipes in surprising and delightful ways, and endeavours to obtain as many of his ingredients locally as possible. Add to this picture portion sizes that appear conscious of the nearly irresistible rambles all around (and the appetites that such rambling stimulates), and the impression is one luxury and fine dining at its best - devoid of stuffiness and sensitive to context.
