Lake District luxury location

Holbeck Ghyll enjoys a privileged hill-side setting between Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside, with the lovely little town of Windermere just a five minute drive away.

Often dubbed the Taste District, this part of the world is known for its fine local produce, we know we’ve got a reputation to maintain. When you’re not fine dining with us, there are a host of breweries, tearooms and bakeries dotted about these parts and visiting them is almost as important as trying a piece of Grasmere Gingerbread  or paying a visit to Beatrix Potter’s home.

For culture vultures, there couldn’t be a better place to take a short break and our Concierge Team is always on hand with tips and ideas so that you spend your time in this lovely part of the world wisely. Equally, if your batteries need some serious recharging, the view from Holbeck Ghyll is enough to satisfy any craving for the English Lakes. Heart-stopping whatever the weather, the view over Windermere lake has been named among the best in the world and is framed by the Lake District’s most iconic peaks including Coniston Old Man, the Langdale Pikes and Scafell Pike – so if you just want to sit back in and soak up the atmosphere, we won’t blame you.

Assuming you don't arrive by helicopter, you can find us via the A591. Winding along the shores of the Windermere and one of the main routes through the Lakes, this is a top priority road for gritting and our grounds staff pay extra attention to Holbeck Lane and the hotel driveway each winter, to ensure easy access - however seasonal the weather.
